Jesus – The Passover Lamb

Everything that the Passover lamb signifies (mercy, faithfulness and deliverance), Christ is even more so. Most will know the Old Testament story of the first Passover. Israel is under the brutal bondage of Egypt when God calls Moses to lead the Israelites to the land promised to Abraham. After Moses’ requests to Pharaoh are repeatedly declined, God judges the land of Egypt but promises the Israelites that through the sacrifice of a Lamb, He will have mercy and His judgement will pass over the houses of the Israelites.

What the Passover Lamb was for the Israelites under bondage, Christ is for all humanity: mercy, faithfulness and deliverance. As John the Baptist proclaims, He is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29, NLT) The Israelites celebrated their deliverance every year with a feast. How much more do we have to celebrate now that we have seen what Christ has done for us!There are 3 distinct ways that kings think, that set them apart from the average person:

Prayer

God, we thank You for Your faithfulness to us in providing us with Jesus and that through Him we are delivered from bondage and are free to step into an eternity with You. In this time of prayer and feasting we choose to celebrate all that You have done for us through Christ. We ask that You use this time to remind us that in Christ we are forgiven, set free and delivered.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.

John 1:29-31 (NLT)
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! He is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘A man is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’ I did not recognize him as the Messiah, but I have been baptizing with water so that he might be revealed to Israel.”
