Deliverance From Bondage
In the Passover of Moses’ day, we see deliverance of Israel from the bondage of Egypt. Imagine for a moment being an Israelite at the time. Perhaps you have heard of God’s promise to Abraham to bring you into the Promised Land. However, it seems your current reality could not be further from that promise. Rather than being in the Promised Land, you are subject to forced labour and harsh beatings. For the Israelites, Passover was the celebration of deliverance from these terrible circumstances. This is certainly something worth celebrating!
In the Passover of Christ, however, we have something even greater to celebrate. We see the deliverance of all humanity from the bondage of sin and death because of the fall. (1 Cor 15: 21, 22) Just as the Passover Lamb of the Old Testament enabled the Israelites to leave Egypt behind and journey on into the Promised Land, the Passover Lamb that is Jesus enables us to shake off sin and step into the ultimate Promised Land: relationship with God for all of eternity.
Prayer
God, I thank you for your deliverance. I thank You that you have delivered me from a state of sin and separation from You. I thank You that through the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus Christ, I am able to step into Your promise, purpose and plan for my life and to live with you. I thank You that I no longer need to live life as a slave to sin but can now live in communion with You, as You intended.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
