Devotion

As we follow Jesus, we grow in our personal relationship with God. One of the clearest ways to know God more is to know His Word, the Bible. As disciples, we need to know that the Bible isn't just a suggestion for some of us, it's crucial for each one of us. If we follow Jesus, then we believe all that's in here! The word of God is a guide for our whole life and "a lamp unto our feet" so we know where to walk. It is God-breathed, and it holds the keys to our life. However, we need to ask God to keep us from seeing the Bible as just a religious duty, chore or a daily checklist to get through. To grow in the word of God, we gotta position ourselves to be moulded by what we read or hear. “Don’t read the word to master it, read the word to be mastered by it.” Ooft. When we understand that we should read the word of God to be transformed by it, then we will start seeing God move in our lives through His Word. Now more than ever, God is looking for a generation who know His word and who are hungry to grow in it. Are you that person? 100% the answer is YES.

Here are some practical things you can do today and every day to grow in the word of God:

  1. Find a place you can focus to read or listen.
  2. Pray and ask the Holy Spirit for revelation (the word of God is alive and active)
  3. Think (meditate) on what you have read.
  4. Write down your thoughts.
  5. Be intentional, step out, and obey God.
  6. Memorise it.
  7. Pray and declare the word.

Now, as you do these things, watch your life be transformed through the word of God!

Scripture

Isaiah 40:8 (NLT)
The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
Joshua 1:8 (NLT)
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Psalms 119:105 (NLT)
Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
James 1:22-25 (NLT)
But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)
For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
