Sermon Notes

It's been an incredible year, and I wanted to share some thoughts on learning to live the life of abundance. It's something we've been exploring in church, and I'm excited to share some key insights with you. Abundance isn't just a concept; it's a reality that God wants you to experience. As John 10:10 says, “The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. Get ready to be encouraged and challenged to step into the fullness of what God has declared over your life!

Supernatural Purification

In John 2, we see the story of the wedding at Cana, where Jesus turns water into wine. There were six stone water jars, used for Jewish rites of purification. The number six, in Hebraic culture, represents incompleteness. These jars symbolise the old covenant system of ritual cleansing. We often try to purify ourselves through worldly means, but Jesus offers perfect purity. Jesus transforms the water into wine, signalling a shift from ritual purification to the joy of the new covenant. It’s not about your efforts; it’s about His perfection. His blood cleanses you from sin and sets you free. God wants to purify you supernaturally to come into a supernatural relationship with you.

Eternal Relationship

In John 4, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at the well. He offers her “living water” that will become a “fresh, bubbling spring” within her, giving her eternal life. This woman, who had six failed relationships, was longing for living water but was quenching her thirst momentarily through these relationships. Spiritual purification leads to a covenantal relationship. You will not thirst again!

Perfect Offering

In John 6, Jesus feeds five thousand people with five barley loaves and two fish. After everyone had eaten as much as they wanted, twelve baskets of scraps were collected. This is a perfect offering. The number of items in the offering totals seven, symbolising spiritual perfection and fullness. The twelve baskets left over represent how the whole nation was fed, connecting to the twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve apostles, symbolising perfect governance. Your life, sanctified and redeemed, is a perfect offering in God's eyes. It doesn't matter your background; God has made you perfect. When you offer yourself to Him, miracles happen.

PrayerHeavenly Father,

I thank you for this past year and for your unwavering faithfulness. I ask for your guidance in trusting you to purify me, guide my relationships, and use my life as a perfect offering. I acknowledge that I may stumble, but I turn to you, knowing that your love covers me. Help me confidently offer my life to you, knowing that you will bring abundance and overflow.

In Jesus' name,
Amen.
