Divine Authority: As in Heaven so on earth
This sermon explores the concept of divine authority, explaining how God's original intention for humanity was to rule the earth under His authority. Despite the fall and the loss of this authority, Jesus, as the second Adam, restored it. Believers, now in Christ, are called to live under His divine authority, manifesting the kingdom of heaven on earth.
In this season, God is calling us to live under His divine authority. It is not just a concept, but a life-changing reality that we are meant to walk in. Divine authority is God's rule over all creation, and as His followers, we are called to represent His kingdom here on earth. The challenge is for us to embrace and walk in this authority, just as it is in heaven.
From the very beginning, God’s plan for mankind was for them to walk in His authority on the earth. In Genesis 1:28, God blessed humanity and commanded them to “be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” This was not simply a mandate to lead, but to carry God’s authority and align the earth under heaven's rule.
Unfortunately, humanity fell when Adam and Eve disobeyed God's command. By giving in to temptation and choosing to trust their own understanding, they lost the divine authority entrusted to them. This opened the door for a counterfeit authority to take hold on earth, resulting in rebellion, destruction, and sin entering the world. However, God had a plan for restoration.
The good news is that through Jesus Christ, the second Adam, authority was restored. Jesus, though fully God, came to earth as fully man, submitting Himself to the will of the Father. He passed the test that Adam failed—resisting the temptation of the enemy in the wilderness by declaring, “It is written” (Matthew 4:1-11). Through His victory, Jesus reclaimed the authority lost in Eden. As believers, when we are in Christ, we are restored to our original position of God's delegated authority in the earth.
When we accept Jesus, we are no longer bound by the counterfeit authority of the enemy. We are now under God’s divine authority. Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Let your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). This is not just a prayer, but a declaration that God's will, His authority, should manifest in every area of our lives. As believers, we are empowered to bring heaven's reality to earth by living under His authority and exercising it in His name.
We are not powerless in this world. As followers of Christ, we are called to walk in the authority He has given us. Let us align ourselves with His will, submit to His lordship, and see His kingdom come. The same authority that Jesus walked in is available to us today. As we pray, as we live, and as we declare His truth, we participate in the manifestation of His divine authority here on earth.
Thank You for the authority You've given us to walk in through Jesus. Help us to live under Your authority, to submit to Your will, and to bring Your kingdom to earth. May Your authority be reflected in everything we do.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
