DAY 8 – Revival Rain is Coming

Scripture

James 5:17-18, NLT
Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.

Devotion

Over the last week, we have talked about the fire of God and how we can keep it burning fiercely. As we conclude this 8-day devotional, I want to encourage you and stir your faith to believe that revival rain is coming as you stoke the spiritual fire in your life!

You’ve probably heard the story of Elijah as he called down fire while contending with the prophets of Baal in 1 Kings 18. The prophets of Baal laid out their sacrifice and cried out to Baal to answer them, but to no avail. Elijah then brought his sacrifice—a slaughtered bull and pot after pot of precious water in a time of drought—and God supernaturally set it ablaze. Then Elijah prayed and rain fell on Israel for the first time in three and a half years. This was a sign of God’s blessing on Israel— the breaking of a drought that occurred because of the nation’s disobedience. But this rain did not come straight away. Elijah had to persevere in prayer and send his servant out seven times to look for any sign of precipitation.

As you bring your hunger and lay your life down before God as a living sacrifice—feeding the fire daily, investing in God’s Kingdom, choosing to praise and worship Him, staying focused on His vision for your life and merging your fire with those who are like-minded—there is NO doubt that you will encounter the fire of God as you never have before.

When your life is set ablaze for His glory, be hungry and expectant for His revival rain. Many parts of the world are in a state of spiritual drought, but God is using ‘hungry’ people to usher in another great revival that will refresh dry souls and restore dwindling churches! As it did with Elijah, this will happen as passionate believers seek God earnestly, persevere in prayer and remain undeterred by delays.

Maybe God is stirring you to get together with a few like-minded Christians to pray regularly. Perhaps He is challenging you to wake up early each morning to seek Him. Or there may be dreams He once deposited in your heart that He is encouraging you to contend for in prayer once again.

Only you know what He is asking of you and only you can offer it.

Who knows what wonders lie on the other side of your obedience?

I certainly hope and pray that you will come to find out.

Prayer

Father,

I thank You for Your revival rain! We need it so desperately. Pour it out over the nations of the world. Bring your healing touch to the waters of our city. Turn unbelieving hearts towards You that they may find salvation. Let healings, miracles, signs and wonders sweep across the earth. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Amen.
