DAY 7 – Treasure Hunters

Devotion

Yesterday, I asked you to imagine yourself as a treasure hunter. Today I want to explore that further because I believe that is exactly what you are.

In Matthew 13:44, Jesus tells a parable about treasure hunting

Matthew 13:44 NKJV
Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

God’s kingdom is the greatest treasure and it is worth everything that we have, but let’s face it, everything that we may think we have is nothing in comparison with everything that Jesus died to give us. As we found out yesterday, God’s Presence in us makes us extraordinary and extraordinarily valuable. This treasure is not just for ourselves! When we learn to see the treasure that God has placed in us, we begin to see the treasure in others also. One of my greatest joys as a pastor is seeing the gold that God has placed in people and calling it out of them.

The problem is that we can be so easily distracted by external things. The ‘treasure chest’ may look dirty and broken on the outside, but that does not and cannot change the reality of what God has placed inside. 1 Samuel 16:7 puts it this way

1 Samuel 16:7 NIV
But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."

Would we be people today that have a revelation of WHO and WHAT we carry? Would we be those who see with supernatural eyes, the gold in others? Would we be secure enough to call out the greatness in others?

Prayer

Father, I thank You for the treasure You have placed in me. Help me today to see the treasure You have put in others.

Amen.
