DAY 7 – Greater than any fear or phobia

According to mental health experts there are around 300 known phobias. That’s a lot!

Our world is filled with fear which is so often tolerated and accepted as a normal part of life or one’s personality. However, God Word says that He has not given us a spirit of fear so we shouldn’t live with it or tolerate it. Jesus came to set us free of all fear and instead, wants us to be filled with His love and power and to have a sound mind that is free of anxiety.

It’s often in our minds that we are most tormented when it comes to fears and phobias. The worry and anxiety can build as we allow our minds to be flooded with all sorts of negative thoughts about what COULD happen. This can then develop into feelings of panic with real physical manifestations like difficulty breathing or a tight chest. However, God is greater than these fears and He can help us to overcome them.

Love is the remedy for fear. When you experience God’s love, fear is expelled. When you realise that God has ‘got’ you and that He will always look after you, provide for you, protect you, heal you, strengthen you and stand up for you (I could go on), then you start to relax and find the peace that goes beyond your understanding. You come to find rest in God and when you are at rest in God, fear cannot influence you.

It’s amazing how Jesus talks about coming to God like a little child. What does a little child do? He or she trusts the voice of their mum or dad. So when they wake in the night after a bad dream and the mum says, “It’s okay, you’re going to be alright. Mummy is here”, they believe what they have been told and go back to sleep. That’s how it should be for us as well. As God’s children, we should trust Him at His word, knowing and believing that He will always take care of His own. God is greater than every fear or phobia!
