Jesus: Our High Priest
Not only is Jesus the ultimate fulfilment of the Day of Atonement sacrifice, He is also the ultimate fulfilment of the High Priest. In the Old Covenant, if your sins needed to be forgiven, you would need to go to the High Priest so that he could make a sacrifice on your behalf.
In the New Covenant, Jesus is our High Priest and mediator. This is certainly something to be thankful for. If we need forgiveness, we can go straight to Him. If we need healing, we can go straight to Him. If we need comfort, we can go to Him. Anything that we may need in this challenging life, we can go straight to Jesus. This is why Hebrews 10:21-22 says “since we have a great high priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.” In this time of prayer and feasting, let us celebrate that Jesus is our High Priest. With Jesus as our High Priest we can approach Him boldly and with faith.
Prayer
Take the time to think about the things that you may need to pray about in your life and in the lives of those around you. Remember that with Jesus as our High Priest, we can go boldly to God and that He already understands our needs. Thank Him for your already purchased victory!
