Devotion
I love to hear the heart of Moses in this passage. He wants to know God’s ways and to understand Him more. This is a powerful pursuit because God’s ways are higher than our ways. Sending His Son to be born in a manger and die a torturous death upon a cross in order to deliver mankind from the penalty of sin, would probably not have been the way we would have chosen, but the result was powerful. There are many such things that God does that we would never think to do.
If we take the time to get to know God more and understand His ways, we will not be troubled by the various trials that we face. Instead, as James put it, we can count hardships as pure joy because through them, we know we are growing in our faith.
I have heard many stories over the years of various friends and family members who found themselves in a hospital or doctor’s surgery, and despite what they were going through physically, managed to greatly impact the nurses and doctors by radiating peace and joy in their struggle. This often led to conversations about Jesus and church, and the love of God would reach out and touch those doctors and nurses through the suffering of one of His children.
The truth is, the more you know God, the more of God is seen in you, and His favour in your life. God’s ability to use a bad situation and turn it around for good is His favour. I recently heard of a man who lost his job but was later hired back by the same company in a higher position, with greater pay. God used a challenging situation to bring about favour in his life. That’s our God!
Prayer
Father,
I pray the same prayer as Moses did today, I want to know Your ways and I want to know You! I don’t want to be stuck viewing the world through my own lens. Instead, I want to see things from Your perspective and I want to live my life according to Your ways. Help me Lord to do that.
I pray this in Jesus’ Name,
Amen.
