Devotion

One of the most powerful things we can do is say “Yes” to God.

Isn’t it amazing that the God who created the whole universe and has all power, never actually forces us to do anything? He doesn’t make us do things but instead, invites us to choose them and that’s something we can all actually do!

The reason this is such a huge key for victory is because when we surrender and say “Yes” to God, we are given His power to do things we couldn’t do in our own strength. Maybe you’ve got some big dreams to do big things for God but you don’t know where to start. It starts by saying “Yes” to whatever He’s putting in front of you right now.

Maybe you just want to change and stop that old habit that you can’t seem to break. Again, start by surrendering to God and saying “Yes” to Him. The truth is, none of us are actually strong enough to do all that God asks us to do. It’s too big and too much, but it’s all good because God isn’t actually expecting us to have all the strength and answers. He’s just asking us to trust Him and say “Yes.” When we do that, it opens us up to the power that HE has for us!

Think about Peter. He didn’t have any special power to walk on water. That was impossible. But when He said “Yes” to Jesus and stepped out of the boat, all of a sudden God gave him an ability that was not his own to do what Jesus told him to do!

He will do the same for you!

Scripture

Deuteronomy 30:11
“This command I am giving you today is not too difficult for you, and it is not beyond your reach.
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the LORD your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the LORD, you will live long in the land the LORD swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
Matthew 14:22-32
Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home. After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone. Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!” Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.” “Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.
