Scripture

Ephesians 6:10-13 (ESV)
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Philippians 4:8 (NLT)
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Devotion

What an amazing time Mighty Conference was! What God did over that weekend in our lives was so powerful, but now it’s time to walk in it. The reality is, the enemy doesn’t just stand by and watch as we grow strong in God. He is a thief who wants to steal, kill and destroy, and he tries to oppose the seed of the Word of God that has been sown in our hearts. Now is the time for us to stand strong, grow in our identity as sons of God and walk in ABUNDANCE! This is why we need to put on the armour of God to be covered daily.

We started ‘40 Strong’ from the scripture, Ephesians 6:10, “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.” But how do we live that out? We read on to verse 11 and find out. “Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

That verse tells us that the enemy has ‘schemes’ against us. We don’t waste much awareness on him, but the word in Greek here is “methodias”—it’s talking about the ‘mind games’ of the enemy. This is a key for us—we’re not letting the enemy get in our heads! Discouragement, shame, doubt, fear and negativity do not have access to your thought life. We have too much ground to take! So, we put on the “whole armour of God” to stand our ground!

Another important note for our understanding here is that “armour” is translated from the word “panoplia,” and is a reference to what the Roman soldiers of the day would have worn. It is not just talking about defensive armour, but offensive weaponry. In other words, we don’t just put on God’s armour to defend against the enemy’s attacks. We put it on to take ground! We are on the attack! We are pushing back the forces of darkness as we take our place as sons and walk in abundance! Now is the time to take ground! So let’s start by reminding ourselves to be strong in God and fixing our thoughts on everything that flows from Him!
