We’re going to start where we left-off from yesterday. Verse 13 tells us to, “Take up” the armour of God. This is translated from the word ‘Analambano,’ a term with a militant feel, meaning to ‘seize it and put in on.’ We could receive this as if it were from a commanding officer—“Men, put this on and stand up!”
The first thing we are told to put on is the ‘Belt of Truth.’ Again, referring to the weaponry of the Roman soldiers, this belt had two important features to note:
- It had an extra leather part that hung over the front in order to protect a pretty important part of your body…YOUR LOINS! (Or other words you may want to use.) This isn’t just funny and useful…it’s strategic. Our ‘loins’ are our ability to reproduce and be fruitful. Spiritually speaking, it’s God’s truth that enables us to be fruitful and also protects us against anything aimed at our fruitfulness!
- The belt holds everything together. It was the place where a soldier could attach his weapons and shield. All of this weaponry was heavy to march with, but he could carry it with strength as it was hung around his hips from the belt. Think about it—everything hangs on Truth! Truth holds the pieces together. Even the ‘Shield of Faith’ has to be anchored securely to the Truth of God’s word!
Jesus said the enemy is the ‘father of lies’ and always operates in deception. Knowing the truth is the antidote to his lies. As Pastor Sam referenced, the key to recognising the counterfeit is knowing the genuine original! When you know the truth and fill your heart and mind with the truth of God’s word, the lies of the enemy become obvious! So let’s do that today! Let’s take up the Belt of Truth, and cover ourselves with it. Let’s ask ourselves these questions:
- Are the things I am thinking about myself and others true according to God’s word?
- Am I deliberately filling my thoughts with the truth of God’s word and what He says about my life?
