Obviously, the point of a helmet is to protect the head. This speaks to us about the necessity of protecting our mind in the middle of the battle.
King David demonstrated against Goliath that one of the most effective ways of defeating an enemy who is more powerful is to aim at his head. Many great sporting teams and individuals could also testify that they were able to overcome their opponents by getting in their heads. Thank God that we are powerfully protected as we take up the helmet of salvation that He has given us and we are victorious as we take ground.
Being protected by ‘salvation’ is a powerful thought. We are saved by God’s grace, and that’s got to get in our heads. He has done it. He has won the victory already. That should affect the way that we think! The knowledge of His salvation protects our minds from the knocks of our opponent. It strengthens our thinking so that, like it states in Romans 8:6, we set our minds on the things of the Spirit. We’re not hard-headed stubborn men, but like Pastor Russell says, we have strong minds. We are wise, strategic and sharp. We’re not cloudy in our judgment or lacking in our awareness. We won’t get dizzy and faint from the hits of the enemy because we are covered by His salvation.
This helmet also protects our thinking by stopping the wrong things get in. We’re becoming immune to the trash-talk of the enemy. Say that to yourself…“I am not listening to the trash-talk of the enemy!” Amen! But the best way to block out that noise, is to focus on His voice! So, what is the Spirit saying today? If it’s not of the Spirit, it doesn’t belong in our minds. If it doesn’t flow from salvation, it doesn’t belong on our minds. As we continue to take ground in abundance, let’s stay covered under guaranteed protection of His salvation! And let’s allow the Holy Spirit to sharpen our thinking as sons of God!
