Day 15: Word for the Day

Scripture

Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Devotion

What an incredible Scripture this is, it firstly encourages us to be rooted and grounded in love. In the amplified version, it says “being deeply rooted and securely grounded in love”. This is the key - not being rooted and fear and anxiety, but our lives need to be rooted and grounded in God's love. I wanted to remind you and ask you a question today, do you truly understand how much God loves you? Do you understand that He is a good Father, that He’ll provide for you and that He loves you?

The Scripture goes on to say that we, “may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height to know the love of Christ, which surpasses knowledge”. He wants you to truly know His love. That word “know” in Greek actually means to know by experience. God wants you to experience His love, His powerful, life-transforming, never-failing love. This is the love that God wants you to experience every single day.

When I read this Scripture, the picture I get in my mind is a tree! A tree that is deeply rooted and securely grounded. Even when the wind and the storms come, that tree is immovable, it’s grounded, it’s not going anywhere, it’s unshaken! This is the picture that God wants for our life. No matter the wind, no matter the storms, no matter the circumstances – when we are deeply rooted and securely grounded in God’s love, you know what? We’re immovable, we’re unshakeable. This is the kind of people that God wants us to be! He has called us to be His sons and daughters! So securely grounded in His love. We also know from 1 John 4:18 that perfect love casts out fear, so when love comes in, fear has to go out.

Can I encourage you today that there is always an opportunity every day that God wants to reveal His love to you? Today is an amazing day for you to have another encounter! Another day for you to go deeper in your experience and understanding of His love. Not just an intellectual love where you’re just knowing it in your mind, but truly knowing it in the depths of our heart.

Prayer

Father, I thank You that You love every single one of us so much. God I pray that I will encounter Your love today. Thank You that You would take me into a deeper revelation of Your love for me, show me how good You are, that You’re a good Father, that You’ll provide for me, that You’ll care for me and that You will protect us. You are good and You love me because I am your son/ daughter. I thank You that I will receive Your love on a greater level. So God, I open up my heart and I simply receive all the love You want to pour into my heart today. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
